Texas Publication Highlights HDR’s Key CE&I Role on Roadway Flyovers Project
An October 2019 article in the Texas Contractor publication highlights HDR’s construction, engineering and inspection role on a $127 million project that will address traffic demands in Austin.
The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is partnering with the Texas Department of Transportation to build three new flyovers at the convergence of 290 Toll and SH 130. Once completed, the connectors will provide a safe, efficient link between the two high-traffic roadways in this 6-mile Austin corridor, which is traversed by more than 43,000 toll customers on an average weekday. Toll transactions have surpassed initial projections, growing nearly 10% a year since opening.
The flyover solution will provide free-flowing, elevated direct connections between the two toll roads without requiring tollway drivers to exit the main lanes and travel through signalized intersections.
HDR’s scope includes all CE&I responsibilities for the project. “The CE&I team acts as an extension of our staff (‘boots on the ground’) by managing the day-to-day activities of all the different contractors,” said Justin Word, director of engineering at the Mobility Authority.
