Electric Vehicles: Impacts to the Grid and Society

Wednesday, October 9 | 9:30–10:30 a.m.
Presenters: Fernando Garcia, Grid Modernization Lead & Angela Piner, Power Client Development Lead

The history of the modern electric car is very short, and the market for light duty electric vehicles is still immature. However, the global trend shows significant growth in electrification, particularly in the transportation market as evidenced by investments the major car companies have publicly announced. While it took approximately eight years to sell the first one million electric vehicles in the United States, it is projected that sales of the next million will only take one to two years.

Join us for a discussion on the state of electric mobility today and how it will impact your stakeholders and municipalities. We’ll provide a basic background on electric cars, an overview of the market, insight on how Michigan compares to the rest of the industry, an outline of market challenges and a summary of some potential regulatory approaches based on what other utilities are doing. You will also learn about benefits to the community and a strategy for the future.
