Doug Wignall Explores Ways to Keep Creativity Alive

Doug Wignall, AIA, LEED AP, president of HDR’s Architecture practice, is one of the featured speakers at Architectural Record’s Innovation Conference, scheduled for April 30, 2015, in Los Angeles. Doug is participating in a panel discussion titled, “Large, XL, & XXL Architectural Firms: Design Creativity,” which explores how architecture firms can instill and increase design creativity while continuing to grow. Doug, along with Perkins + Will’s Ed Fiener, FAIA, and AECOM’s Ross Wimer, FAIA, will discuss how they encourage innovation and avoid the pitfalls of being too big to be responsive to a rapidly changing society.

Doug will offer an interesting insight to this particular discussion in that he has spent his entire career at HDR, starting as an intern architect in 1991. In 2012, he was named president of its worldwide architecture practice, and with his leadership, the firm has expanded into Canada, the Middle East, China, Germany and Australia. Doug’s commitment to design excellence has created a culture that attempts to challenge the status quo, fosters collaboration across disciplines, and maintains a passion for innovation.

The theme for the one-day conference is “Expanding Architecture: Creativity, Design and Technology.” Designers representing diverse segments of the field will address topics that explore how and why the world of architecture is expanding.

The W Hollywood Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles will host the event. Attendees can earn up to 6 AIA HSW LUs.
