Douglas Wignall Elevated to AIA College of Fellows

Douglas Wignall, FAIA, LEED AP, president of Architecture for HDR, has been elevated to the College of Fellows in the American Institute of Architects (AIA). This is AIA’s highest membership honor, awarded to professionals for their exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society. Only three percent of the AIA’s 88,000+ members have received this distinction.

Wignall was elected to receive the honor because of his unwavering commitment to design excellence, his leadership in investing in transformational growth; his support for empowering collaboration and innovation beyond buildings, and his advocacy in advancing the value of design.

In writing his sponsorship letter for Wignall, Scott Simpson, FAIA, Senior Principal at The Greenway Group, commented:

“Each year the AIA Jury of Fellows recognizes transformational leaders who have made a profound impact on the profession. As the president of one of the country′s largest and most respected A/E firms, Doug Wignall is such a leader. Doug′s driving vision is that design is the key to improving how people live, work and play, and he puts that vision to work each and every day as his guiding principle.”

“These are times of profound changes in the A/E/C industry, and the need for inspirational and transformational leadership has never been greater. Doug WignaIl has played this role not only in his own firm, but for the profession at large.”

A member of AIA since 1992, Wignall also serves on the International Task Force and the Advocacy Task Force for the AIA Large Firm Roundtable. He is also a Senior Fellow and executive board member of the Design Futures Council and a member of the Board of Trustees for the National Building Museum.

The Investiture ceremony for all new Fellows will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017, during the AIA National Convention in Orlando, Florida.
