HDR Team's Remediation Gives Depot New Life
Members of the HDR team were recently honored with the Phoenix Award for their work in U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 9 at the Defense Logistics Agency San Joaquin Tracy Site in San Joaquin County, California, making it the ninth such honor earned by the company. The distribution depot has supported every major war and many contingency operations over the past seven decades from World War II to the latest events in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as humanitarian efforts around the world.
The Phoenix Award is widely recognized as the premier award of excellence in brownfield redevelopment and revitalization. The award was presented at Brownfields 2017 held recently in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Past depot missions resulted in environmental contamination. Now with site cleanup goals largely achieved, the community’s risk of harmful pollutants entering their water systems or breathing in pollutants dispersed through the air has been mitigated and DLA can continue their critical support mission.
