Julie Robertson, NCIDQ, IIDA, Senior Interior Designer in HDR’s Minneapolis architecture studio, has recently assumed the role of IIDA Northland Chapter Vice President of Community Outreach, a new committee in 2017 for this 400-member chapter.

The committee advocates for interior design and the legislation required to become a certified interior designer. As Julie explains, “In interior design, the end result is much more than the sum of its parts. Designers plan spaces to enhance the human experience and overall function using form, materials and light, while adhering to codes, regulations and guidelines that protect the welfare of their inhabitants.”

The Community Outreach committee is also focused on enhancing, engaging and educating the community through multiple types of volunteer projects. Current partnerships are with Women’s Advocates, Special Spaces Twin Cities and the School of Engineering and Arts. Recent projects that IIDA Northland Chapter members have completed for these organizations have included a refresh to a lounge and meditation room and a new bedroom for a young girl who overcame a major illness. Members have also led workshops for elementary school-age children.

Julie has been involved with the IIDA Northland Chapter for six years, having previously served as Vice President Elect for the Membership committee.

Kristina Johnston, CID, IIDA, LEED AP, President of the IIDA Northland Chapter, comments:

“Julie cares deeply about the profession and educating the industry and public about its indisputable value. We are grateful for her commitment, participation and contributions to the IIDA Northland board.”
