Downtown Denver Partnership Selects HDR's Raphael Chavez for Leadership Program
Raphael Chavez, AIA, NCARB, LEED GA, architect in HDR’s Denver architecture studio, is among 100 participants chosen for the Downtown Denver Partnership’s 2018 Downtown Denver Leadership Program. Aiming to “transform business leaders into city builders,” the program exposes participants to urban issues, policies and practices through an annual project that provides opportunities for research, analysis and collaboration.
This year’s project is the Civic Center Station. The goal is for participants to recommend a semi-permanent vision for the 20,000 square feet of open space between the renovated station and Colfax Avenue. Throughout the process, participants will learn about mobility, development and placemaking, and how these elements work together to build a “premier downtown,” according to the website.
“HDR has been actively involved with this program for the past couple of years, and I’m honored to be selected for it,” said Chavez. “I’ve already learned a great deal about the city and its initiatives.”
“Raphael’s commitment to HDR and the City & County of Denver inspires us all,” said Julianne Scherer, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C, IPMA-D, managing principal of HDR’s Denver architecture practice. “To be selected for this program is a testament of his focus to positively impact the world around him, engage with the greater community and share his talents as a steward for great design and community engagement.”
