Holly Madara, RA, RN, has joined HDR as a Health Principal based in the Princeton, New Jersey office, to support its global health practice. As a registered nurse with more than 25 years of experience in both the architecture and healthcare professions, Madara is highly skilled in master planning, programming, healthcare planning and process improvement.

Madara most recently served as Administrative Director of Cardiovascular Services at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, where she focused on operational process improvement and led development of a comprehensive heart failure program for the Mid-Atlantic Trinity Health Hospital system.

Madara is a black belt in Lean – Six Sigma and these operational process improvement tools helped her develop the physician co-management structure in her previous position. Wearing her architectural hat, Madera also used her planning skills for programming and planning of support departments to establish budgets, multiyear master plans and program analyses to maximize growth opportunities.

“As a clinician and architect,  I was attracted to HDR’s progressive approach to providing specific expertise to satisfy evolving client needs,” Madara said. “HDR has a strong in-house consulting arm of clinicians and Lean – Six Sigma trained professionals, so this is truly a place where my experience can contribute to improving health outcomes for the patients our clients serve.”

Madara’s experience as a registered nurse spans 15 years. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Thomas Jefferson University and a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Temple University. She is currently completing her Master of Science degree in Nursing at Drexel University.

“We are focused on ensuring caregivers have a vital voice in developing design solutions. Holly’s experience with direct operations in the patient care setting will help us design for evolving delivery methods.” said Chris Bormann, AIA, ACHA, LEED AP, Director of Health at HDR. “Holly understands the changing needs of providers and her clinical perspective will help us better address them in design.”
