HDR’s Dylan Coonrad Named a DFC Emerging Leader for 2018
Dylan Coonrad, lead creative designer with HDR, was one of six professionals named by The Design Futures Council (DFC) as its 2018 Emerging Leaders. DFC announced the recipients at the organization’s recent Leadership Summit on the Business of Design in New York City.
Coonrad was chosen for his master storytelling skills and his passion for architecture’s ability to improve the human condition. He is well-known for creating communication solutions that capture the essence of complex architectural, engineering, sustainable design and user experience design concepts in the context of clients’ aspirations.
“Dylan represents a new and necessary generation of designer, one who can tell engaging, relatable stories that foster an understanding of how design interventions can improve not only the health and wellness of the people for whom we design,” said Doug Wignall, president of HDR’s architecture group. “He has parlayed his architecture degree into a career our contemporary world demands: he solves communication problems with elegant graphic solutions, on both traditional and digital platforms. He is able to engage an audience to experience the power of design in emotional and memorable ways by elevating the importance of its human-centered component.”
The DFC’s annual Leadership Summit convenes senior executives from across the architecture/engineering/construction industries to explore essential business issues of strategic importance and engage in peer-to-peer exchange on the trends and forces of change shaping practice. One of the DFC’s missions is to identify and recognize future leaders who are and will have an impact on design practices, design professions and the community. The DFC Emerging Leaders scholarship program addresses this goal by selecting individuals who represent the future of design practice in terms of its broadening scope, service to society, sustainable design and technological innovation. DFC Emerging Leaders are selected by the editors and managers at DesignIntelligence, the DFC’s parent organization.
Each of the six emerging leaders received a scholarship to attend the summit. Scholarships were provided by DuPont Protection Solutions. DuPont has been the exclusive sponsor of the DFC Emerging Leaders program since 2010.
