HDR’s Nesbitt Brings Passion, Experience to New Development Sector Position
Kaia Nesbitt has been promoted to HDR’s development sector practice leader. With HDR since 2014, she was previously site design principal. She is based in the Denver office.
In her new role, Nesbitt will work with clients on growth and re-development opportunities that leverage all of HDR’s capabilities, and will serve as a catalyst for HDR’s land development practice. The development sector is creating opportunities across other HDR sectors — in particular, buildings for the civic, commercial and industrial teams.
“The way projects are delivered is rapidly changing,” Nesbitt said. “Partnering with our clients to create a better world is my passion. I am a connector at heart, and look forward to building a practice that uncovers multi-disciplinary opportunities within HDR and leverages those capabilities into new and renewed client partnerships.”
Nesbitt emphasizes that one of HDR’s strengths is its powerful potential to leverage expertise and an integrated design approach to help clients create sustainable large-scale developments that are vibrant, resilient and regenerative. The growth of urban infill and similar large-scale development trends are driving an increased need for this approach.
With a background in engineering, site design and strategic planning, Nesbitt’s extensive portfolio brings over 20 years of experience in working with clients to solve land-based problems at a range of scales. Nesbitt frequently bridges disciplines, integrating multiple design perspectives into strategic thinking and site solutions for clients in both the public and private sectors. Her experience in the Urban Land Institute to promote smart city and healthy community initiatives on a national scale makes her a natural pick to focus HDR's efforts. Nesbitt holds a bachelor of science degree in engineering and product design from Stanford University and a master of landscape architecture from the University of Colorado Denver.
