HDR has been named the 2018 Employer of the Year for Companies with 20 or More Employees by the International Right of Way Association (IRWA), a professional member organization comprising global infrastructure real estate practitioners. In addition, HDR’s Patricia “Pat” Thayer was given the Frank C. Balfour Professional of the Year award during IRWA’s recent 64th International Education Conference held in Edmonton, Alberta.

IRWA works to elevate ethics, learning and a standard of excellence within its membership community. The Employer of the Year award spotlights a company that demonstrates strong employee support and commitment at chapter, regional and international levels of IRWA in terms of participation, financing, time allowance, facilities and service.

HDR employees are active in local IRWA chapters throughout North America. “We have been a longstanding supporter of IRWA,” said Carol Bellinger, HDR associate vice president and director of real estate services – transportation. “I’m so proud we were selected as Employer of the Year and our Pat Thayer received the Professional of the Year award for her excellence in our right-of-way profession.”

The Frank C. Balfour Professional of the Year award, named after IRWA's founder, honors professionals who have demonstrated exemplary support to the association based on outstanding contributions made through leadership positions in the chapter, regional and international levels; fulfillment of educational courses and activities; participation in association regional and international activities; and achievement of IRWA professional designations.

“Without the support and encouragement of my family, my mentors, my employers and my IRWA family, I would not have achieved this honor,” said Thayer, HDR real estate services project manager and senior right of way agent (SR/WA) based in Fairbanks, Alaska. “Given that IRWA is made up of just over 10,000 members across the world, I am beyond humbled. This award represents 35 years of education, dedication and service.”
