Jim McKay Rejoins HDR to Lead Canadian Engineering Practice
Jim McKay has rejoined HDR as managing director for the firm’s Canadian engineering practice. Jim previously served as a vice president and Canadian resources group leader from 2010 to 2016. Under his guidance, the group made a number of key Canadian hires and secured many high profile projects that helped HDR become a leader in the waste sector throughout Canada and around the world.
Most recently, McKay was the general manager of solid waste management for the City of Toronto. He led more than 1,100 employees ranging from frontline service providers to engineers, scientists, and construction and maintenance teams.
“My time at the City of Toronto taught me many things, including the types of pressures our clients face as they work to deliver the best possible services to citizens,” McKay said. “But I also learned that I missed HDR — the great people, the company and the culture I liked working in and with for so many years. I’m looking forward to helping grow our overall Canadian presence and using what I learned from the client’s perspective.”
McKay is a strong advocate of the importance of culture in employee success and is well-known for his collaborative leadership style. He will be based in the Richmond Hill, Ontario office.
