Scholl Joins HDR as Michigan Program Lead, Manager of Water

James Scholl, P.E., BCEE, D.WRE, recently joined HDR as program lead/manager of HDR’s water program in Michigan, based in the Ann Arbor office. In his position, Scholl is responsible for client and business development activities, and management of water, wastewater, stormwater and water resources projects and infrastructure master planning and delivery. 

With more than 40 years of industry experience, Scholl is noted for his technical expertise, leadership, program and operations experience, and oversight of local, national and international projects and pursuits. Among his positions before joining HDR, Scholl gained experience with several Michigan-based and national consulting firms, including most recently at Hubbell, Roth & Clark, working with municipal, industrial, and government agency clients. He was also manager of integrated water operations for BG Group (now Shell) in Brisbane, Australia, where he led water system delivery for a multi-billion dollar liquefied natural gas project.  

Scholl is an active member of the American Water Works Association, including the AWWA Michigan Section, and recently received an award from the AWWA in recognition of his contribution to the water industry as a member of the organization since 1986.

He is also a member of the Water Environment Federation, the American Academy of Water Resources Engineers (diplomat, water resources engineer), the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (board certified environmental engineer), and a fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineering.

Scholl received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree from the University of Florida, both in civil engineering. He is a licensed professional engineer in Michigan and Florida.
