ASCE Cleveland Names HDR's Rich Atoulikian Civil Engineer of the Year
Rich Atoulikian has been named Civil Engineer of the Year by the Cleveland section of the American Society of Civil Engineers. A lifelong resident of Cleveland, Atoulikian is a vice president with HDR and is the water practice manager for its Ohio/West Virginia/Pennsylvania operation. He has been with HDR since 2011.
Atoulikian has designed numerous water treatment plants that provide safe and reliable drinking water to the public. He spent the first 34 years of his career with another large environmental engineering firm, building his technical skills before becoming a project manager, program manager and ultimately director of project management for their Municipal Group.
In addition to his HDR operational responsibilities, Atoulikian serves as client manager for Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District and American Water, the latter being the largest investor-owned utility in the U.S. He manages a $20 million automation upgrade program for NEORSD and is a registered engineer in Ohio and a number of other states.
He also enjoys mentoring younger engineers, and over the past 25 years has observed several of them move into leadership positions across the industry.
In addition to ASCE, Atoulikian is also a member of the Water Environment Federation, American Water Works Association, Project Management Institute, and has served as a regional officer for the Design-Build Institute of America.
“I’ve dedicated my life to water in the hope that others could benefit,” Atoulikian said. “It’s an honor to see my efforts in this area are making a difference, in some way, to treat wastewater and clean our lakes and rivers.”
