HDR Transit Director Tom Waldron Appointed to APTA’s Executive Committee

Tom Waldron

HDR’s Tom Waldron will help guide the future of the leading voice for public transportation in North America. At its annual meeting in New York on Oct. 12, the American Public Transportation Association board of directors appointed Waldron, HDR’s global transit director, to a three-year, at-large business member term on the organization’s 25-member executive committee.

The executive committee is the decision making body of the board of directors with authority on matters involving the management and performance oversight of the association and its leadership. APTA has more than 1,500 public and private sector member organizations, and more than 90 percent of customers using public transportation in the United States and Canada ride APTA member systems.

“This appointment is a great honor and a great responsibility,” said Waldron. “APTA’s actions in the coming years will be pivotal for being able to provide mobility choices to those seeking affordable, reliable, safe and environmentally responsible transportation. Healthy communities depend on good public transportation, I’m happy to be front and center to the discussion, and I’m dedicated to working on behalf of the millions who rely on transit every day.”

With more than 40 years in the industry at public agencies, entrepreneurial start-ups and in consulting, Waldron has extensive experience in all facets of transit, both in the U.S. and internationally. A strong advocate for developing the next generation of transportation leaders, Waldron has also been deeply involved in diversity and workforce development initiatives at APTA, as well as those sponsored by the Women’s Transportation Seminar and the Council of Minority Transportation Officials.

HDR’s transit practice has steadily grown under Waldron’s leadership with projects such as the Kansas City Modern Streetcar, LA Union Station Redevelopment and the San Diego Mid-Coast Corridor Transit Project, among many others. With 550 transit professionals devoted to achieving unrivaled excellence for our clients, HDR is well positioned today to continue as the recognized leader for planning, designing and delivering the public mobility of tomorrow.
