HDR Wins Another Federal Planning Division Award
The American Planning Association presented HDR with an Honor Award for Outstanding Environmental Planning Project for the Vegetation Plan at Defense Supply Center Richmond, Virginia. It’s the 12th Federal Planning Division award for HDR in 11 years.
The award recognizes comprehensive planning and land management projects on federal properties. Awards were presented this month to projects that showed a commitment to improving the quality of life for the residents, users, visitors and employees of federal lands and facilities.
According to the judging panel, the Vegetation Plan was “an excellent approach to ensuring sustainability on a foundational and elemental basis. This effort provides clear-cut guidance on the path forward that is usable forward on all development and maintenance of the installation earthbound elements.”
The plan created for DSCR provides specific guidance for the use of new and replacement vegetation that promotes the sustainability and future development of the installation. HDR’s work with DSCR dates back for more than a decade, including installation design guides, sustainability plans, fire protection design, building renovation and several environmental support projects.
“The Vegetation Plan will have a long-lasting impact for the more than 3,000 employees at DSCR and future generations,” said Suzanne Casagrande, HDR landscape architect. “It is the first all-encompassing guide to detail native-to-Virginia plants that will preserve DSCR's land and its long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability.”
