JB Neethling Honored as WEF Fellow

JB Neethling has been named a WEF Fellow by the Water Environment Federation Board of Trustees. The prestigious WEF Fellows Program was founded in 2011 and recognizes the professional achievement, stature and contributions of members who have preserved and enhanced the global water environment.

WEF Fellows are nominated by their peers. Neethling and other recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony in conjunction with WEFTEC 2019 on Sept. 24, 2019, in Chicago, Illinois.

Neethling has a 42-year career, including 30 years with HDR. He is based in Folsom, California, and serves as HDR’s director of wastewater treatment and effluent management. Neethling is a renowned presenter on biological nutrient removal, regulatory issues and related designs.

One of his peer nominators wrote, “He has been the project manager on more than 100 nutrient removal projects … He consistently goes well above and beyond in generously sharing his knowledge and insights, including impacts that changes in regulations may have on our industry.”

As the consummate learner and professional, Neethling holds both a Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science in civil engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

Another nominator noted, “JB has managed to maintain a sense of technical curiosity and exploration … It is not unusual to see him guiding a group of young engineers at a meeting, but it is also not unusual to see him asking 20 enthusiastic and well-informed questions of a young graduate student.”
