Kurt Koenig Joins HDR as a Power Generation Practice Lead
Kurt Koenig has joined HDR as power generation practice lead in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Koenig is setting the strategic vision for the thermal power generation practice. He’s focused on partnering with clients to navigate the evolving power industry and helping integrate transformational solutions for energy generation, delivery and demand reduction.
"As power generation fleets are forced to adapt to meet lower cost and lower carbon emission initiatives, the power market is rapidly changing," said HDR Power Sector Director Bill Barnhart. "We’re partnering with our traditional power generation clients to navigate the change, and tapping Kurt’s background to guide new distributed power generation clients.”
For the past decade, Koenig has specialized in distributed generation projects. Most recently, he led efforts at large educational institutions and healthcare facilities focused on combining energy efficiency, environmental stewardship, and resiliency through the deployment of local generation and microgrids. Throughout his 20 years in the power industry, Koenig has served large utility clients, municipal utilities and small private generation clients.
Koenig is a professional engineer with a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Carolina, and bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and physics from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, respectively.
