A Message From Our CEO on Social Unrest

As a concerned citizen and member of one of our numerous communities experiencing social unrest, I join many in feeling the emotions sparked by the appalling deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and others.

These deaths, along with the experiences of Christian Cooper and many Black people, rooted in racism, cannot be explained away or tolerated. Addressing racial bias will take many forms, and HDR will continue to play our role by helping to move toward a place where all people can live and work without fear and prejudice.

I want to speak directly to those who may be feeling the pain of bigotry brought forward in our communities. Racial injustice has yet to be overcome, but HDR is fostering a culture of inclusion, and we are dedicated to doing our part in striving against racism and discrimination.

When Black members of our community live with fear, anger and hurt, we should not sit back and let them suffer alone. Within HDR, that means our best is inclusive of our Black employees. Our commitment is to use our voices to ensure that at HDR they are heard, understood and supported.

I’m personally deeply troubled by what we’re seeing and hope we can focus on what we need to do as a society to create the future every citizen deserves. I’ve encouraged our 10,000-plus employees to be responsible and accountable to ensure we reach out to each other with empathy, watch for signs where a helping hand is needed, and urge open conversations to better understand our similarities, differences and the challenges we face.

Together we will work to promote an environment where people of every walk of life feel welcome and valued.
