Mike McPhail Joins HDR as Boston Design Principal
Mike McPhail, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, has been named design principal for HDR’s architecture practice in Boston, joining a global network of design leaders who champion the importance of creativity, innovation and design thinking to push boundaries around the world. He arrives at HDR following nearly two decades of leadership at Perkins & Will in Chicago where he designed and planned large-scale institutional projects around the world.
Much of McPhail’s 28-year career has been focused in healthcare, however he has a breadth of experience in various sectors with projects that span the globe.
“Mike is not only an outstanding designer, but will fit in perfectly with HDR’s design philosophy, personality and market sectors. I look forward to great outcomes and collaborations ahead,” said Brian Kowalchuk, FAIA, HDR global design director.
“Mike’s expertise, health design leadership and collaborative approach are a perfect fit for our Boston studio," said Chad Reilly, Boston office managing principal. "We share his commitment to expanding our leadership and capabilities for current and future clients.”
McPhail admits that his passion for architecture began at a very young age and has only grown throughout adulthood. In addition to finding joy in the process of design, McPhail finds the most fulfillment in sharing the experience with those involved in the project as each individual makes a contribution to the outcome.
“I look forward to the new adventures and opportunities that come from working with a firm with the values, expertise and reach of HDR," McPhail said. "The firm has a robust team of talented professionals and I’m excited to join the ranks of our multi-disciplinary team.”
