Eric Beightel Joins HDR as Principal Infrastructure Policy/Environmental Strategist
Eric Beightel has joined HDR as a principal infrastructure policy/environmental strategist.
Beightel will provide industry-leading expertise in federal environmental policy to teams across the U.S. He will assist clients in understanding how changes in federal policy can affect their programs and provide innovative regulatory planning and compliance strategies to expedite environmental reviews of major infrastructure projects.
“There are monumental shifts coming in infrastructure policy and, notably, the ways in which we consider the environmental and social effects of our infrastructure investment,” Beightel said. “With new investment brings new opportunities to rethink how we move people and goods in a more sustainable way, providing connections to communities and opportunities.”
Based in Washington, D.C., Beightel has over 20 years of experience working in the environmental and transportation fields. He is a nationally recognized expert in the environmental laws, regulations, policies and procedures that govern the transportation project development process. His mastery of the National Environmental Policy Act and complex multi-jurisdictional problem-solving, including working with a broad and diverse range of stakeholders, has yielded some of the last decade's fundamental federal environmental regulations and policy.
Beightel helped lead the development and implementation of the efforts to modernize and improve the federal environmental review process during the Obama administration and provided integral technical assistance for the passage of environmental streamlining provisions of the Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act.
After leaving government, Beightel continued to provide policy expertise to some of the nation's largest infrastructure projects and supported federal clients in developing and implementing policies to accelerate environmental reviews.
“With unprecedented investment expected from this congress and changes to environmental laws and regulations on the horizon, Eric's knowledge and experience will be critical in helping our teams and clients make sense of the changing policy landscape,” Hoppy said.
