Chris Allan, a transportation professional with deep experience managing complex projects in Australia, has been promoted to serve as HDR’s transportation manager in Australia.

Based in Brisbane, Queensland, Allan will provide strategic coordination of our transportation staff and resources to help our multidisciplinary teams solve our clients’ most complex mobility challenges. He will oversee key projects and implement business development efforts in all markets to uncover new opportunities in Australia.

“I look forward to collaborating with clients on opportunities to develop holistic, resilient, long-term solutions to improve the safety and operation of our transportation networks,” Allan said.

Allan began his career at the age of 16 as a cadet drafter, studying part-time to earn his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Queensland University of Technology. He eventually founded his own engineering business, DKS Consulting, which was acquired by HDR in 2012. With over 30 years of civil engineering experience, he has proven expertise in road design, drainage design, pavement design, design and build contracts, and stakeholder engagement. Taking a collaborative and client-focused approach to his work, he is widely recognized within the industry for his technical ability and strict compliance to relevant Transport and Main Roads standards and processes.

Most recently, Allan has focused on highway and motorway upgrades, serving as the design manager for Queensland’s AUS$150 million Smithfield Bypass, which significantly improved the functionality of traffic in the surrounding community, and the AUS$514 million Haughton River Floodplain Upgrade. The upgrade increases safety and accessibility for travelers, effectively removing the flood vulnerability of the Bruce Highway. The project was recently honored with the Innovation Excellence Project of the Year Award from Infrastructure Partnerships Australia.

“Chris is rightly recognized by our team and our clients as a strong, knowledgeable and collaborative leader,” said Mark Fairweather, Australia managing director. “I look forward continuing to develop our practice in Australia with him.”

“Chris’ vast experience managing and delivering complex projects, combined with his ability to relate to our clients, fellow employees and design and construction partners, positions him to lead growth of our transportation business throughout Australia,” said Rob Moses, transportation international director.
