Kate Garufi Joins HDR as Rocky Mountain Region Remediation Lead
Kate Garufi has joined HDR as Rocky Mountain Region remediation lead. Based in Denver, Colorado, Garufi is partnering with federal clients, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on complex remediation projects.
With 16 years of experience working for the EPA, Garufi is a program expert in hazardous waste cleanup, federal acquisition planning, and Superfund site management. At the EPA, she was considered the go-to national resource for Superfund regions in technical scoping under it’s new contracting approach, the Remedial Acquisition Framework. Garufi served as the EPA’s National Superfund liaison to USACE, where she was responsible for oversight of $500 million of active USACE remedial work and management.
Garufi is a technical expert known as a straightforward problem-solver in the industry. She founded a co-sponsorship with the Society of American Military Engineers and has driven technical program development for national symposiums and continuing education web-based seminars.
She holds a master’s degree in environmental engineering from John Hopkins University and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Virginia Tech.
