Pelin Ozgul Earns “Rising Star” Honors by Healthcare Design

Pelin Ozgul, AIA, NCARB, EDAC, Fitwel Ambassador, has been named a 2021 Healthcare Design Magazine Rising Star. The magazine grants the awards to individuals involved in healthcare design for fewer than 10 years.
As an architect in HDR’s Arlington, Virginia, studio, Ozgul has over seven years of experience in architecture, planning, design and business development. She is known for not only her skills in sustainable design, creative planning solutions, and parametric modeling tools but also her active involvement in marketing pursuits and client and community engagement
Ozgul pursued her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley and specialized her experience with a Master of Sustainability Management from Columbia University. Since then, she has focused her efforts on healthcare planning, process improvement and business strategy from a sustainable design perspective.
“I am grateful to The Center for Healthcare Design for creating an award to recognize the commitment of young leaders to our industry and selecting me for this great honor,” Ozgul said. “I couldn’t be here without the support of my immediate team, extensive HDR family and many mentors whose dedication to my growth in healthcare design has led me to be here today.”
A 2019 AAH Herman Miller Healthcare scholar, Ozgul is an advocate for redefining how data-driven technology and the built environment can interact to design sustainable healthcare environments for a positive user experience. Ozgul has led several key medical planning meetings of The Roslyn and Leonard Stoler Center for Advanced Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
“Pelin is exactly the kind of young, influential, curious leader our industry needs,” said Hank Adams, AIA, FACHA, HDR global director of health. “She demonstrates a sensitivity to the impact of our work on the well-being of communities as well as a forward-thinking perspective, redefining how technology and space interact for improving outcomes.”
Ozgul is passionate about knowledge-sharing within her field and throughout HDR. The immediate past-chair for HDR’s Young Professionals Group in Arlington, she founded and chaired Power Chats, a bimonthly mentorship discussion series, and Design + Wine, a monthly design presentation series that showcases diversity and inclusion. Ozgul is HDR’s representative on the AIA|DC Emerging Architects Committee, where she organizes key professional development and networking events for the greater Washington, D.C. community.
