Kleingartner Returns to HDR as Education & Science Principal
Christopher Kleingartner, AIA, LEED AP, has rejoined HDR as education and science principal based in the firm’s Denver architecture studio.
Kleingartner will be instrumental in advancing HDR’s delivery of smart, human-centered design for its higher education and science clients and their stakeholders. In collaboration with local office and regional education and science leadership, he will help drive the overall direction of the education and science sector in the Denver architecture studio and throughout Colorado and the Mountain region. His role will entail strategic planning, business development, building client relationships, leading pursuits, and directing project teams.

Kleingartner brings over 22 years of experience leading higher education, science & technology and workplace projects for top academic research institutions, biotech companies, developers, and federal public health clients. His portfolio includes work for Colorado School of Mines, University of Colorado Boulder, Ball Aerospace, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, University of Illinois, LSU and many others. An award-winning architect, his attention to meeting clients’ needs and his spirit of collaboration across all disciplines results in successful outcomes for highly complex projects.

Within the lab design industry, Kleingartner is a thought leader helping to define new paradigms and trends in sustainable lab facilities and inclusive design. He has frequently presented at conferences across the U.S., including SCUP and I2SL National Conferences, and is a director on the I2SL Colorado Chapter Board. In 2017, he was named American Institute of Architects Colorado Emerging Professional of the Year.
