Lara Berger, MBA, FACHE, has joined HDR as a senior health strategist based in our Charlotte, North Carolina, architecture studio. Berger’s more than 30 years of experience working in the healthcare strategy space for hospital providers and as a consultant allowed her to cultivate a specialized skill set within facility master planning and clinical equipment capital planning.

Berger is responsible for evidence-based strategy development that considers industry trends, hospital and health system strategic and financial goals, and the needs of the community. She will leverage her experiences to collaboratively develop new solutions that support and advance providers navigating change.

“I have had the benefit of working with providers of various scale and focus and am able to appreciate the pain points they share as well as their own uniqueness as caregivers,” Berger said. “My work in strategic planning may not be in direct patient care, but I help improve the systems that support the birth of a child, the care of someone with chest pains in the emergency department, and the treatment of people with cancer. It takes all of us adding our expertise to develop the best system of care possible.”

Prior to joining HDR, Berger owned and led a business consulting firm with expertise in strategy development, data analysis, and project management working with multiple industry segments, including architecture, design, and construction; medical equipment planning; hospital and physician providers; commercial real estate; and healthcare research.

“Lara brings a depth and breadth of insight to multiple segments of the healthcare industry,” said Health Practice Leader Holly Madara said. “Her knowledge and foresight will play an integral part in the ongoing growth and development of our portfolio as we continue to broaden our services in response to our clients’ needs.”

Berger earned both her Bachelor of Science in healthcare management from the University of Alabama and her Master of Business Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
