HDR’s Shofiq Ahmed Honored as ASCE ‘New Face of Civil Engineering’

Shofiq Ahmed , P.E., a traffic engineer in HDR’s office in Charleston, West Virginia, has been named one of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ New Faces of Civil Engineering 2023.
The award recognizes the next generation of civil engineering leaders. These 10 early-career professionals have demonstrated exceptional community service work, organizational leadership, communication skills and industry involvement.
Ahmed is a strong advocate for young engineers' involvement in organizational leadership and networking activities. He currently serves as ASCE's West Virginia representative on the Region 4 ASCE Young Member Advisory Council, the past president of Younger Members, and a founding member of HDR's virtual Young Professional Employee Network Group. “I realized I can make a lot of friends, make a lot of connections and build a good brand value for myself in the industry,” he said about his busy schedule.
As part of the award, Ahmed shared more with Civil Engineering Source about making his own civil engineering home in West Virginia, and what brings him the most satisfaction about his work.
Ahmed and the other winners will be honored at ASCE’s Outstanding Projects and Leaders awards gala in October.
