Modern Office Landscape with Sustainability Focus

The HDR Berlin studio has tripled its office space after moving into a building in the heart of the Tempelhof-Schönefeld district. Once an old factory, the new space is a mix of industrial character with bright, modern elements — high ceilings, large windows providing plenty of daylight, and vibrant high-pile red accent carpet. The flexible layout of the space includes a variety of work spaces and collaboration zones with room for expansion.

The new studio promotes an environment for open creative exchange with desk sharing workstations for 80 employees, allowing teams to group as needed. A large meeting area is flanked by two individual offices and three double co-working office spaces, providing an alternative shared arrangement to the open concept as needed. Movable partitions hung from the ceiling provide the ability to easily change the configuration of the room. The partitions also function as a hanging surface for drawings and brainstorming or critiques in addition to acoustic benefits. Space is also dedicated to breakout areas for informal work with casual upholstered furniture and views to the countryside.

Designed collaboratively by an in-house team of architects, site managers, and interior designers, the Berlin studio is a creative, inclusive, and inspiring space.

Additional features include:

  • Bicycle storage and cloakroom
  • In-house model shop
  • Large, open staff kitchen
  • A family-friendly room with a desk space, couch, and children’s toys to accommodate working parents during kindergarten or school closures — promoting the compatibility of work and family.
  • A certificate in silver of The German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen e.V.) is intended. The DGNB certification system is similar to the LEED green building certification system developed by the US Green Building Council.
