HDR's “World Changing Ideas” Recognised by Fast Company

Three HDR projects have been recognised by Fast Company magazine as “World Changing Ideas,” cited for the innovative way they are “tackling the biggest challenges of our time.” The three projects were selected from among nearly 3,000 entries in this awards program that is focused on social good, seeking to elevate finished products and brave concepts that make the world better.

The projects recognised include:

  • Grand Boulevards: A strategy for leveraging decaying strip malls into multi-functional mixed-use boulevards that could provide millions of new housing units, including affordable housing close to jobs and services.
  • Rodney Cook Sr. Park in Historic Vine City: A community resource that does double duty by seamlessly integrating functional engineering within a programmed park space.
  • The Florida Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Master Plan: A roadmap to advance electrified mobility in Florida, transform the state's multimodal transportation infrastructure and deliver one of the best transportation systems in the nation.

“Our World Changing Ideas Awards are an annual recognition of the innovative ways companies and individuals are tackling the world’s most prominent challenges, and it was uplifting to see the many projects addressing everything from climate change to inequality to the unrelenting pandemic,” said Kristin Toussaint, editor. “These problems can feel overwhelming, but these projects are a reminder that tireless problem solvers are addressing our most urgent challenges.”

World Changing Ideas is one of Fast Company’s major annual awards programs. A panel of judges from across sectors choose winners, finalists, and honourable mentions. With the goals of awarding ingenuity and fostering innovation, Fast Company draws attention to ideas with great potential and helps them expand their reach to inspire more people to start working on solving the problems that affect us all.

This marks the third consecutive year that Fast Company has honoured HDR in its World Changing Ideas award program. Last year, five of HDR’s projects were featured and in 2020, six projects were recognised.
