Kuang Y. Lim, P.E., PhD

Bridge Section Manager

As our bridge section manager, Kuang leads seismic analysis and the retrofitting of bridges and structures. Based in our Walnut Creek, California, office, he serves as project manager on the Golden Gate Bridge seismic retrofit project and the engineering manager for the Bay Area Rapid Transit Aerial Structure Earthquake Safety program.

Kuang’s ultimate goal is to prevent the loss of human life. He meets the challenges of incorporating seismic design in bridge structures with solutions that minimize risk associated with earthquakes.

With more than three decades of industry experience, Kuang is renowned for his expertise in structural analysis and seismic-resilience design techniques. His research has helped develop design guidelines for the nonlinear behavior of steel and concrete structures in the seismic retrofit design of the Golden Gate and Richmond-San Rafael bridges. His work as project manager helped the Golden Gate Bridge Phase II Seismic Retrofit Project win the Outstanding Civil Engineering Achievement award from the American Society of Civil Engineers.

A thought leader throughout the industry, Kuang is a member of the American Concrete Institute and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
