James O'Byrne, FCIBSE, MIET, CEng
Client Development Director
Architecture & Building Engineering Services
James has over 30 years of experience within the building engineering services sector — working for both contractors and consultants — delivering significant projects for major clients. Having joined the Hurley Palmer Flatt team in 2009, he has been involved in numerous large, complex, commercial, residential and mixed-use developments for major developers, and continues to do so since Hurley Palmer Flatt joined HDR. Some of these projects include London Wall Place, Principal Place, No6 Stratford and No1 Leadenhall, along with a whole host of projects. His role was instrumental in establishing a mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering and energy team in what was our London West End office.
His responsibilities include business development, project management, and resource management, but he also remains closely involved in projects, particularly during the critical scheme design stages of the projects. Another of James’ many strengths is client liaison, which has ensured effective development and maintenance of strong business relationships for the business throughout a project lifecycle and beyond.
He has a keen interest in the use of technology in the design process and promotes the leading-edge computer systems to help shape and inform the building massing and performance from the very early stages — early collaboration with the design team being key to the success of this approach. He takes an integrated team approach to delivering high quality, innovative and appropriate solutions. James has a particular interest in the optimisation of low energy and sustainable building design.
