XL Hospitals

Transformational Hospitals that Define the Future of Healthcare

At more than one million square feet and $1 billion, XL hospitals are game-changing healthcare ecosystems. And we’ve designed and completed more than any other firm.

Major health systems have expanded beyond their immediate communities to bring medical excellence to a broader patient population. As the ambulatory and specialty system expands geographically, the patient population grows, highlighting the need for updated facilities at the main medical campus. As a result, large-scale acute care and specialty hospitals have become the central hub of comprehensive health systems.

XL hospitals must be iconic, welcoming, efficient and deeply connected to their communities. They’re not just large buildings on campus, they’re bold statements of purpose.

Target Value Programming is a methodology that aligns project scope and budget from the outset, mitigating risk and enhancing design quality for projects of all scales.

New Parkland Hospital Sketch

A New Beginning for A Civic Anchor

Through careful planning and deft execution, this massive facility was delivered on time and under budget. One key reason for this success was the innovative use of prefabrication and modular design. Three miles of overhead MEP racks, 750 bathroom pods, and 850 headwalls were constructed offsite to save time, ensure consistent quality construction, reduce waste and protect trade workers. These strategies support the hospital’s educational role while contributing to Dallas’ urban fabric.
