The Nokia Bell Labs Research and Development Headquarters — also known as H-2 — is the second signature installment of a three-phased innovation district masterplan for the Health & Life Science Exchange (HELIX NJ). The largest investment in life sciences and medical education in the state’s history, HELIX NJ creates a state-of-the-art development that brings together academic institutions, research organizations and innovative companies to foster growth and collaboration in New Jersey. This strategic alliance is supported by the New Brunswick Development Corporation, the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and the City of New Brunswick.

A High-Performance Design Rooted in Quality for Nokia Bell Labs
HDR serves as the base building architect for H-2 which is designed in partnership with SJP Properties and in collaboration with Jaros, Baum & Bolles, Thorton Tomasetti and Langan Engineering & Environmental Services. The new 10-story research and office tower is a build-to-suit design with cutting-edge environments and building systems that fulfill specific functions for innovation and laboratory research and operations for Nokia Bell Labs.

- LEED Gold certification target.
- Building core positioned to one side of the building maximizes open floor area and provides equitable employee access to natural daylight and centralized building support and amenities.
- Dynamic curtainwall design showcases angled glass units with a running bond pattern for a signature architectural expression.
- Specialty floor slab designed to VC-E vibration criteria supports vibration-sensitive laboratory environments.
- North-facing balcony on level six provides open views of the city and promotes temperate outdoor working and social environments.
