Highways and Roads Strategic Communications Lead
Nicole is an experienced communications professional with more than 25 years of engaging communities through traditional and digital strategies. As a highways and roads strategic communications lead, she oversees the development and implementation of outreach strategies that build trust, collaboration and understanding among diverse stakeholders involved in complex transportation projects.
Nicole has supported major highway programs across the public and private sectors. She currently leads public involvement for the I-10 Wild Horse Pass Corridor project within the Gila River Indian Community near Phoenix. Previously, she served as public involvement lead for the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement project in Arizona. She has also contributed to high-profile projects like the Northern Parkway, Bell Road Adaptive Signals and the SMARTDrive connected vehicle technology test while with the Maricopa County Department of Transportation.
Skilled in developing effective social media strategy, Nicole has a growing interest in how artificial intelligence can enhance public involvement. She studies emerging trends, tests AI applications on transportation projects, and educates others on responsible and ethical AI usage. She previously served as the co-chair of the AI task force created by the Transportation Research Board Standing Committee on Public Engagement and Communications.
Nicole serves as vice president of WTS Metro Phoenix and as awards chair for the American Public Works Association’s Arizona chapter.
