HDR Foundation Announces 22 Grants Spanning 15 States
Twenty-two HDR Foundation grants totaling $611,548 reflect the passion and community involvement of HDR employees.
The grants span 15 U.S. states and align with at least one of the foundation’s focus areas: improving education, creating healthy communities and encouraging environmental stewardship.
Each grant is sponsored by an HDR employee closely engaged with the nonprofit recipient, with 15 employees serving as sponsors for the first time.
Glen Williams, HDR procurement reporting and automation analyst, sponsored a grant to the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools in Nebraska to fund industry-standard fabrication and biotechnology tools for the Science Focus Program.
“I firmly believe that the HDR Foundation’s support will strengthen an already robust experience at a nationally recognized program by providing students with modern prototyping and molecular biology tools that empower experiential learning, preparing them for higher education and ultimately the workforce,” said Williams, a former member of the program.
A grant to Onward Industries blends scientific educational improvement with environmental stewardship by funding field-based learning materials in a coastal region of California.
“What stands out most to me about Onward is the way they create accessible, meaningful entry points into outdoor and environmental experiences, particularly for youth and families who may not otherwise have those opportunities in Los Angeles and Southern California,” said Eric Banghart, HDR transit section manager and employee sponsor. “Their programs are not passive — they invite participation, curiosity and a sense of ownership.”
A grant focused on creating healthy communities funded trail grooming decks to make skiing in rural Alaskan villages more accessible and enjoyable for people of all abilities.
“Skiku has been able to work with schools throughout the state to bring equipment and coaches out to teach skiing to students and teachers in these communities,” said Brittany Hippe, HDR bridge engineer and employee sponsor. “Having groomed ski trails makes it easy to go skiing, removing barriers between kids and outdoor activities.”
