NREL Flatirons Control Center Facility

An Advanced Hub for Energy System Monitoring and Research

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s Flatirons Campus is home to the National Wind Technology Center, as well as numerous other clean energy research areas, including a significant portion of the unique Advanced Research on Integrated Energy Systems (ARIES) platform. Designed to accommodate future research requirements, the two-story Control Center focuses on the monitoring and operational control of on-site integrated energy systems, while also interfacing with other national labs, universities, and research institutions worldwide.

NREL envisions the Control Center Facility and subsequent FRF as living laboratories that can be completely powered by the wind and solar energy generated on campus. Fully integrated metering tracks live data on the use and efficiency of both the building's and campus's power generation and storage infrastructure.

Though primarily an active laboratory for NREL and guest researchers, the Control Center Facility is positioned to be a highlight of the NREL Flatirons Campus for visiting dignitaries and tour groups.
