Empowering Tomorrow’s Water Leaders: HDR Invests in One Water Research
As global water challenges grow more complex, HDR is investing in the next generation of problem solvers who will shape the future of our industry. Through HDR’s One Water Institute, we’re not just advancing research, we’re building a pipeline of talent equipped to lead with innovation and purpose.
Since 2012, HDR has partnered with the American Water Works Association (AWWA) to support graduate students pursuing careers in water through its scholarship program. The HDR One Water Institute Scholarship provides $10,000 annually to a graduate student whose research aligns with the future needs of the water sector.
“I'm very excited about the way this program is evolving,” said Chance Lauderdale, HDR’s Drinking Water Director. “With an emphasis on graduate student researchers, I think our scholarship has the potential to go beyond the laboratory and into the industry. One Water innovations need bright minds, and bright minds need our support.”
In 2025, the scholarship was awarded to Dane Elliott, a Ph.D. candidate at The Ohio State University. Dane’s research explores beneficial reuse opportunities for water treatment residuals. Her work aims to make meaningful progress and insights into contaminant removal.
This scholarship is one of many ways HDR’s One Water Institute fosters collaboration, drives innovation and supports the development of future leaders in water. By investing in people, we’re investing in the long-term health and resilience of our communities.
