Julie Stein, ENV SP, LEED AP

Julie provides nationwide leadership and advisory services for achieving compliance with the Clean Water Act, evaluating green and grey infrastructure solutions, and enhancing the sustainability and resiliency of cities. She works collaboratively with staff, clients and partners to ensure we deliver the full spectrum of stormwater services and best practices provided by our local and national experts.  

She's passionate about creating clean, green and safe places to live, work and visit. She is accomplished at identifying the necessary, diverse expertise and disciplines for collaborative, high impact solutions to improve livability, water quality and waterfront access in urban areas.  

Julie previously served as the Director of Wet Weather Planning and Water Quality Policy in the Bureau of Environmental Planning and Analysis for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection. There she helped implement new, large-scale programs including New York City’s Green Infrastructure and Wastewater Resiliency Programs that address long-standing combined sewer overflow concerns and implement mitigation strategies for critical infrastructure to protect against coastal storm surge and sea level rise. 

Julie is a long-time member of the Water Environment Federation’s Stormwater Committee. Early in her career, she served as the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Community Planning Fellow where she developed curricula and content for the EPA's Office of Water and the Association of State Floodplain Managers first jointly held pre-disaster mitigation and watershed planning training workshops 

She has a bachelor's degree in environmental studies and sociology from St. Lawrence University and a master of urban planning, environmental and water resources from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
