Samantha Black, Ph.D., P.E.

Samantha is a water/wastewater engineer in the West Palm Beach, Florida, office and supports projects ranging from feasibility studies to water treatment plant designs. Samantha helps utilities address emerging contaminant and water quality challenges, including per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance and 1,4-dioxane removal, taste and odour mitigation, and lead and copper control. Samantha also works on bench- and pilot-scale studies and projects with The Water Research Foundation.

She grew up in Orlando, Florida, and attended the University of Central Florida for her bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees. Although her graduate research focused on the removal of compounds of emerging concern using membrane treatment, she is passionate about all things water! Just like in graduate school, Samantha enjoys working on applied research projects at HDR because they allow her to conduct research in a real-world setting.

Samantha is an active member of the American Water Works Association, serves on the Board of Directors for the American Membrane Technology Association and enjoys presenting at local and national conferences. Recent publications include articles in Desalination and Water Treatment Journal and American Membrane Technology Newsletter.
