Managing Principal Cate Cowlishaw Attains Fellowship at Australian Institute of Architects

Cate Cowlishaw, HDR managing principal of Australia’s architecture group, has been awarded a Fellowship from the Australian Institute of Architects in recognition of her significant contribution to the architecture profession beyond practice.

To become an Institute fellow, applicants must be endorsed by the Chapter Council and meet a set of criteria that demonstrates contribution to the profession, the broader industry and the community.

“Today, the architecture and property industry are facing several market and operational challenges across the government and private sectors — and peak bodies like the Australian Institute of Architects help us to navigate the profession beyond practice and champion the broader community,” Cowlishaw said.

With this deep industry knowledge and an extensive client network across numerous markets, not only has Cate forged a career focused on business development, architectural operations and practice leadership, but she is passionate about advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion in the industry.

Her service to the community and the profession is evidenced by her commitment to mentoring and coaching both within the studio and across industry-wide mentoring programs for aspiring architects and graduates. She is the Institute’s NSW Chapter Chair for the Gender Equity Taskforce and an NSW Architecture Bulletin Editorial Committee member, as well as contributing to a wide range of industry associations and architectural education over her career.

“It is an honour to be recognised as a Fellow of the Institute and I am committed to driving step change in the industry, alongside practice’s best minds, for many years to come,” Cowlishaw adds.
