Arizona State University Armstrong Hall

A New Home for the Liberal Arts

HDR has completed renovations of Armstrong Hall (a former law school) and Ross-Blakley Hall to transform the dated spaces into a beautiful new home for the College of Liberal Arts.

Armstrong Hall is a two-story concrete and steel structure with a partial basement. The building is zoned into two main areas:

  • The first floor is a hub for students with informal lounges, cafés, conference rooms, advising and a career center. Design drivers for this space included improving wayfinding, orientation, and student engagement by using natural daylight and color and creating strategic openings toward the two-story rotunda.
  • The second floor is dedicated to the Dean and support faculty and staff.

The team was able to reuse existing materials such as the original terrazzo flooring and brick.
