Nico Malfara, P.Eng.

Nico leads our transit market work in Canada, providing strategic leadership to one of the country’s fastest-growing transit practices. From our Vancouver, British Columbia, office, he leads a national team of engineers and support staff advancing a diverse portfolio of complex transportation programs, helping clients plan, fund and deliver transformative transit infrastructure that connects communities and improves quality of life. 

He combines deep technical expertise across the full life cycle of public transit projects with a collaborative, people-first leadership style. He has built a reputation for delivering innovative, practical solutions that balance mobility, equity, sustainability, and cost, and for successfully executing projects from early planning through design and implementation. He specializes in rapid transit planning and has played key roles on some of Canada’s highest-profile and complex projects, including the Ontario Line in Toronto, the Hazel McCallion Light Rail Transit extensions, and the award-winning Lakeshore Bus Rapid Transit program. His experience also includes leading critical initiatives such as operations and maintenance facility master planning for TransLink, and operational readiness for City of Calgary.

Nico has progressed through a range of technical and leadership roles reflecting both his technical depth and his ability to inspire teams and build strong client partnerships. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in British Columbia and Ontario and an active contributor to industry organizations, including the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies BC and the Transportation Association of Canada.

Recognized as one of Canadian Consulting Engineer’s Top 10 Under 40 in 2025, Nico is known for his visionary leadership, technical excellence, and commitment to advancing the future of public transit. His impact spans mentorship, innovation, and community engagement, and he is passionate about creating transit systems that are accessible, resilient, and designed to serve everyone.
