Bridge across a river

Engineering

We’re well-known for providing custom engineering solutions to challenging projects. Our experience across many disciplines offers you broad perspective for diverse infrastructure and facility needs.

Albert Einstein once said that “scientists investigate that which already is; engineers create that which has never been.” Our multidisciplinary engineering experts embrace the opportunities to push boundaries and create new frameworks that can transform communities at many scales. For more than 100 years, we’ve created the water, sewer, road and electric systems that modernize communities. Today, we design integrated systems, sustainable infrastructure and intelligent buildings that optimize operations, maximize cost savings, and reduce the incidence of failure.

We believe in a commitment to function, schedule, budget, constructability, safety, and sustainability.

We’re able to adapt to changes in our environment as well as technology, so no matter the circumstances, we see each project as an opportunity to maximize your investment, reduce life-cycle costs and ultimately improve our communities.

Engineering Services

Building Data Management

We are dedicated to digitalizing the construction industry, driving better value, efficiency and productivity both at the enterprise and project level. We work with a range of organizations across various sectors helping to obtain accurate, consistent, and quality data, which is easily accessible. Building Data Management

Civil

We provide you the expertise needed to complete the civil design phase of your project. We follow local design guidelines and work with permitting agencies. Our services include site layout and conformance to setbacks and floor-to-area (FAR) requirements, grading and erosion controls, stormwater management, wetland mitigation, utilities, water/wastewater systems, solid waste disposal, lighting, and roads and parking. We also provide construction management services.

Fire & Life Safety

Our Fire & Life Safety (FLS) team is committed to providing clients with tailored, safe and cost-effective solutions to protect their most important assets: people, property, and business continuity.

Our FLS team comprises licensed fire protection engineers, NICET system designers, past code officials, certified inspectors and plans examiners, accessibility specialists, risk consultants, and loss prevention specialists. With a diverse industry background and perspective, our FLS services offer expertise in fire protection, life safety, risk management, and asset protection.

Geotechnical

We have the tools, technology and experience to provide comprehensive geotechnical services for foundations to rock-cut slopes. Our integrated teams can perform and evaluate soil and rock analysis and foundation analysis, design slope retention systems and cut-and-fill slopes, and much more. We can also manage instrumentation, monitoring and quality control systems during construction. We work closely with each client and design team to identify project needs and provide technically sound, cost-effective and constructible solutions.

Hydrologic and Hydraulic Engineering

Our hydrologic and hydraulic engineering services help clients solve problems related to too much or too little water. This includes watershed engineering analysis; river, floodplain, and coastal hydraulics analysis; reservoir systems analysis; hydroinformatics; statistical analysis; risk-informed water resources planning and analysis; and real-time forecasting and decision support analysis.

Our  expertise includes professional engineers, floodplain managers, and software developers, allowing us to complete any type of hydrologic or hydraulic engineering analysis needed. Our integrated hydrologic engineering studies— include all the required databases, models, and visualization tools, assembled and configured to work together to facilitate decision making.

Instrumentation & Process Automation

We design smart instrumentation systems and automation processes. Our work includes assessing and documenting the current state of installed control systems; participating in multidiscipline design review meetings; selecting and specifying process instrumentation, control panels and network equipment; and developing biddable and technically accurate construction documents.

MEP-Mechanical Electrical Plumbing

We provide a diverse range of MEP system designs as well as consulting services for all building types and business classes, including facility system investigation and recommendations, writing/editing specifications, energy studies, cost analyses and payback studies, peer reviews, commissioning support, and construction administration. Our goal is to provide appropriate and efficient solutions that achieve client satisfaction throughout the life of the building. Learn More

OT Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity Threats Have Real-World Impacts

Cybersecurity is something that most people know they should care about. However, because of the complexity of the topic and the ever-changing nature of both the threats and security requirements, it can quickly become overwhelming.

Cybersecurity is mostly associated with protecting important data on information technology systems or the Internet. However, industrial control systems including process control, distributed control, and building control systems — also known as operational technology systems — are vulnerable too. These systems have become a vital component to operating critical infrastructure, industrial manufacturing and buildings, however they are increasingly at risk of cyber-attack with reported incidents on the rise. Smart Buildings

Developments in the digital world have revolutionized the built environment. We guide you in your smart building journey – defining, designing and delivering technologies (including IT/AV/Security/IoT/iBMS) that enhance the built environment and ensuring you are ready for the technological advancements of the future. Smart Buildings

Structural

Our deep bench of expertise in complex structures ensures the safety and reliability of our built environments, and provides the backbone and strength for quality designs. Using the latest advances in technology, we provide engineering services for steel, concrete, masonry, and timber structures that exceed our clients’ needs for serviceability, functionality and form. Our integrated approach to engineering means our structural engineers work side-by-side with other engineering disciplines to provide a well-coordinated design within the shortest possible timeline.

Surveying

Data acquisition provides the baseline for much of what we do. We use the latest technology, including terrestrial LiDAR (Light Image, Detection and Ranging) and UAS (unmanned aerial systems), e.g., drones, for accurate surveying on our projects.

Telecommunications Engineering

Understanding the important role telecommunications systems play in our clients’ business functions, we design intelligent networks that offer facilities the ability to utilize heterogeneous systems, including switching, server virtualization, unified telecommunications (voice over IP, VOIP), and storage systems. We design, build and implement these systems to perform at optimal levels while keeping support and maintenance costs to a minimum. We constantly examine and evaluate emerging technologies to best understand how our clients can benefit from rapid advancements in this field.

Value Engineering

Our approach to the value engineering process follows the prescribed six-step job plan of SAVE International, and is basically the same regardless of the design phase. However, the objective of each workshop can be different depending on the level of development of the project.

The primary objective of a VE study is value improvement. We use performance attributes and value matrices to evaluate each alternative and establish their value. These value improvements might relate to scope definition, functional design, constructability, coordination (both internal and external), or the schedule for project development. Other possible value improvements are reduced environmental impacts, reduced public inconvenience, or reduced project cost.
