The Largest NIH Containment Facility

This building is the largest NIH facility built for and dedicated to containment and houses the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) study to determine possible agents of emerging and infectious diseases. It is designed to allow for bio-containment research including BSL-3 enhanced to be conducted on every floor.

The design of Building 33 was ushered through the National Capital Planning Commission so quickly and efficiently that the NIH is using it as a model for all other projects going though the NCPC.
