Natural Gas Pipeline Helps Utilities Meet Growing Demand for Cleaner Power Generation

Spanning 256 miles (ca. 412 km) through northern Ohio and southeastern Michigan, the Nexus Gas Transmission project delivers up to 1.5 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas to utilities and consumers. The 36-inch natural gas pipeline connects with several smaller lateral pipelines, and includes installation of four new gas turbine compression stations totalling 72,000 horsepower. Together the network expands access to natural gas across the region to meet growing demand for cleaner power generation.

As part of Fluor’s EPCM team, we took on the role of owner’s engineer serving as a liaison between the environmental and engineering teams leading the project, and supporting the FERC licensing pre-filling and filing process. To lead environmental inspection services, we mobilised 23 full time environmental field staff during construction and helped lead environmental training for all contractor personnel. When the project wraps up, we’ll facilitate post-construction and restoration monitoring for the project footprint to address project-specific mitigation requirements and regulatory standards.
