Alexandria Police Headquarters Facility
Alexandria Police Headquarters Facility
Bringing Critical Public Safety Functions Together
The four-story Alexandria Police Headquarters Facility locates critical public safety resources for approximately 500 law enforcement personnel together in one place. As a central hub for the city’s public safety services, the headquarters supports the function of specialized police operations, emergency communications and community engagement.
Designed for Connected, Resilient Operations
Spaces are organized around a public atrium that serves as the facility’s main entrance and brings natural daylight to occupied floors. Specialized spaces include a criminal investigations laboratory, secure property and evidence storage, and an emergency communications center shared by police and fire departments.
Strategically located on the top floor, the emergency communications center is separated from noise and vibration associated with ground-level operations. Adjacent radio, telephone and computer server spaces provide convenient access for personnel and reduce potential distractions during maintenance and upgrades. Redundant utility feeds, backup generators and an uninterruptible power supply support the facility’s critical operations.
Key Design Features
- Administrative areas support investigations, security, operational preparedness, situational planning and more.
- Dedicated community meeting space within the headquarters provides an area specifically for public use.
- Secure building infrastructure in a protected outdoor yard co-locates electrical generation, mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) and backup systems.
Supporting Public Safety for the Long Term
Achieving LEED Gold certification and designed for operational resilience, community access and resource efficiency, the headquarters brings critical public safety functions together in a secure yet accessible environment.
