From developing analytical frameworks and dashboards to incorporating more advanced data analysis and review techniques, we work with organizations to understand, communicate and harness asset data across the entire asset life cycle. This results in organizations making better informed data-driven decisions and optimizing their approach to asset maintenance, operation and performance, including transitioning from reactive to predictive asset management.

Understanding the current state of assets is critical to optimizing service delivery and maintaining safety. We help organizations evaluate inventory and condition needs by identifying required data, determining the appropriate level of detail, and assessing what is already available. From here, we can then conduct the asset inventory and/or condition assessment, provide post-processing support, and deliver results in formats compatible with enterprise systems. Our team uses advanced technologies — including artificial intelligence, geographic information system (GIS), light detection and ranging (lidar), and unmanned aerial vehicles — to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and safety of data collection and analysis.

Asset management aligns to the asset life cycle, which begins with strategic and long-range planning, when the need for the asset is identified and continues until the end of the asset’s functional life, when the asset is disposed. Our team provides a full array of services to help organizations operate and maintain their infrastructure more efficiently and effectively throughout the entire life cycle. Our services include developing customized life cycle strategies, implementing capital rehabilitation and maintenance optimization programs, and assisting with the decommissioning and replacement of assets.

Through a comprehensive and collaborative approach, we work with organizations to assess their current asset management capabilities, understand both short-term and long-term asset needs, and develop an asset management improvement program aligned to overarching goals and objectives. We base our assessment on the Institute of Asset Management (IAM) forty subject areas, in which HDR is a certified assessor and trainer. The assessment can also be aligned to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 55000) Asset Management Guidelines.

Asset management processes and asset information form the foundation of a strong and mature asset management program. We work with organizations to understand their key asset and asset-related processes, visualizing workflows to validate accuracy and identify opportunities for improvement. This dovetails into understanding the essential components of the organization’s asset information frameworks — its standards, structure, and governance — by identifying required information, highlighting opportunities for refinement, and supporting efforts to improve data quality and completeness.

We help improve the technology infrastructure of an asset management program, from assisting with the evaluation, procurement, and oversight of enterprise asset management applications, to reviewing and enhancing existing software and technology across the asset management spectrum.
