Able Stormwater Pump Station

The City of Dallas Trinity Watershed Management Department partnered with us for the design of their new Able No. 3 Stormwater Pump Station. This project included installing a new pump station with a capacity of 876,000 gallons per minute (gpm), decommissioning two existing pump stations, improving connections between the nine ponds that form the sump system, and providing designs for aesthetic improvements. The new facility is situated on the southwest side of downtown Dallas and serves the Central Business District Community.

Other major project components included:

  • Architectural design to complement the area’s high style architecture.
  • Design standards to meet City’s LEED certification.
  • Use of Infoworks SD for hydraulic and computational fluid dynamics analysis.
  • Physical modeling of the pump station intake and discharge piping.
  • New pump station using four concrete volute pumps with a nominal 55 feet total dynamic head and two 25,000 gpm low-flow pumps.
  • Four 4,000 horsepower induction motors with variable frequency drives.
  • Duperon mechanically cleaned trash racks.
  • Four 108-inch diameter discharge pipelines with flow meters.
  • Three new bridges on Cadiz Street and Riverfront Boulevard.
