Dry Lake Wind Energy

Powering 15,000 homes with Arizona’s first commercial-scale wind power project.

Iberdrola Renewables brought us on board to help conduct environmental reviews for a commercial-scale wind power project crossing 6,000 acres in Navajo County, Arizona. The wind farm includes 30 wind turbines situated on less than two percent of the project’s site, leaving the majority of land available for cattle grazing.

Crossing public and private lands, the mix of project ownership forged a strong public-private partnership that helped move the wind project forward. Major portions of the project are on federally managed lands, requiring environmental reviews under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Our team conducted a series of studies, reports, surveys and reviews that paved the way for installation of the 412-foot-tall wind turbines. We evaluated the National Registry eligibility of 33 archaeological sites, surveyed more than 2,000 acres for cultural resource assets, evaluated habitat and potential land use conflicts, and described geologic and soil conditions in the project area.

The Dry Lake Wind produces enough renewable energy to power 15,000 homes in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
