HDR a Founding Member of New Canadian Association for the Practice of Architecture
The Canadian Association for the Practice of Architecture (CAPA), a nonprofit focused on advancing the business interests of architectural practice in Canada, has officially launched as a national organization. HDR’s Canada practice is one of the largest among CAPA's 23 founding firms.
With the goal of advocating for fair and effective business conditions while reinforcing the value of architecture in strengthening Canada’s economy, CAPA was formed in response to shared challenges in a rapidly evolving industry landscape. By promoting fair business conditions, constructive dialogue and stronger support for the practice, CAPA aims to help build a stronger, more resilient future for architectural practice in Canada.
Kristen Harrison, MRAIC, will serve as the organization’s first executive director. David Flett, HDR’s managing principal for Eastern Canada architecture studios (Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa), will represent HDR as a CAPA board member.
“HDR is proud to be a founding member of CAPA and supports its mission to strengthen the architectural profession across Canada,” said Flett. “Canada has ambitious goals for housing, infrastructure and economic growth in the coming years, and architects play an important role in building our future. CAPA will be a coordinated, collective voice to advance conditions for architectural practice to thrive.”
